Puppy Vaccinations and Deworming

Puppies receive antibodies through their mother’s milk within the first day of life, which offer them protection. However, over time, these antibodies decrease in effectiveness. The duration of this protection can vary for each puppy. To ensure continuous protection once the mother’s antibodies diminish, it’s recommended to administer a series of vaccinations to your puppy.

Worms can cause health issues for your puppy: coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, low energy, potbellied appearance, change in appetite, weight loss, dull coat, itching and signs of skin irritations, and can cause damage to internal organs, and lead to loss of consciousness and death. These health issues can be avoided with a regular deworming regiment.

Heartworms are also a genuine concern for dogs. Protecting them from heartworms is a straightforward process and there are a number of methods for administering heart worm medicine. Discuss the possibilities with your vet.

Vaccinations against rabies are mandatory. Each state has its own set of requirements, which your vet will be well-versed in.

Recommendations for when to begin deworming and vaccinations vary, so please consult with your veterinarian to determine the best deworming and vaccination schedule for your puppy.
